Danson Road, Bexleyheath, 1929
Blendon Hall was the home, until 1929, of Anna Riggs Jay, widow of Charles Jay. Her family had been owners for earlier generations.
At her death the estate was sold, a process that the local landed estates went through. It was bought by local builder, D. C. Bowyer, for £29,000.
Their plans were for a more upmarket development than most - the house was to be retained and used as a private school. But ambitions were scaled down and the house demolished in 1934.
This view shows the very south end of Danson Road at its junction with Blendon Road. The site is under one of the Danson roundabouts off the A2.
The other sign, for the one to the Three Blackbirds is more enticing, advertises the sale of Blendon Hall Estate.
The car belongs to the photographer A. H. T. Boswell, a prolific recorder of the local scene in a period of such dramatic change.
