Thamesmead Under Construction, 1970
Swans on Southmere Lake during the construction of Thamesmead new town.
Southmere Lake was the first to be constructed with the intention to provide leisure facilities for boating and fishing.
Water was always to be a key feature in the original conception of Thamesmead although the present day reality does not quite match up to the early plans.
