St James' Church and St James, New Cross, c. 1900
The parish of St. James was formed in 1845 to serve the expanding population of New Cross and the present church was built in 1854.
The street leading to St. James' church, formerly Church Road, is now called "St. James's".
The houses were built between 1862 and 1874.
