Grove Hill, Camberwell, 1792
Grove Hill was an important mansion east of Camberwell Grove.
It was the home of Dr.John Coakely Lettsom from 1779 to 1810. Dr.Lettsom bought part of the manor of Camberwell Buckingham at its sale in 1776 and built one of the grandest houses of the suburban elite of the late 18th century.
His wealth was not to last and his estate was sold in 1810, precipitating a further phase of development, this time of grand Regency and early Victorian houses.
