Grove Lane, Camberwell, 1981
Grove Lane developed in a more piecemeal fashion to its easterly neighbour, Camberwell Grove, and the houses in the first photograph, numbers 57 to 65, provide a good example.
Originally there was a terrace similar in style to the gable ended, white fronted house with the ornate barge board at the end of terrace (currently number 65a), but the houses shown here were built in the 1900s.
The second photograph shows numbers 18 to 38 Grove Lane. They were built in the late 18th century and are part of a larger terrace originally known as Queen's Row.
This was the largest single development on Grove Lane.
