The Angel, Rotherhithe, 1960

The Angel is one of the oldest public houses in Southwark and certainly the oldest in Rotherhithe.

A pub of that name has been recorded since the late 17th century.

The warehouses in the background, which were used for tobacco, were typical of many along the Thames.

They have since been pulled down and the foundations of Edward III's palace have now been revealed.
